Becoming a Member

You’ve spent several Sundays at The First Presbyterian Church in Cleveland. You’ve met some members, and maybe you’ve volunteered a time or two.  Now you’ve made the decision to join… what’s next?

The First Presbyterian Church in Cleveland holds several new member classes each year, usually in the spring and fall. Since these dates rotate, it’s best to keep an eye on our weekly ConneXions newsletter or our events calendar for updates on when the next class/gathering is taking place.

During this 4-week new member orientation, you will receive a Membership Handbook and learn about our history and legacy as a Cleveland institution, how our leadership and committees are structured, and how our beliefs align with various opportunities to get involved in the community. You will also get a glimpse of what it means to belong to a church under the PCUSA (Presbyterian Church USA) denomination. If you are interested in learning about the wider mission and beliefs of PCUSA, visit pcusa.org.

After you’ve completed the class, you will be recognized during a Sunday worship service as a new member and receive a Member Certificate as well as congratulations from our clergy, staff, and congregation. Once you’ve joined, we highly encourage using your gifts to volunteer for mission projects or get involved with a First Presbyterian Church in Cleveland committee and put your talents to use.
